Volatile Lubricants Injected Through Laser Drilled Micro Holes Enable Efficiently Hydrocarbon-Free Lubrication for Deep Drawing Processes

Abstract In order to reduce the use of classic lubricants such as synthetic or mineral oils, emulsions waxes in deep drawing process, a new tribological system based on volatile was investigated. this system, medium is injected under high pressure through laser drilled micro holes directly into contact zone between tool and sheet metal serves temporary lubricant. investigate realistic conditions, strip experiments with different (air, nitrogen, carbon dioxide argon) were performed galvanized sheets. Therefore, generation tools designed numerically calculated for low elastic deformations ensure uniform distribution over entire friction area. To obtain homogeneous lubricants, number depth several millimeters hardened jaws using ultrashort pulsed radiation. Taking account capabilities drilling technique terms size shape holes, computational fluid dynamics simulations predict flow behavior lubricant within hole well compared observable effects outflow tests. The chemical composition acting layers characterized by means X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy their changes during process correlated used measured wear values.
